Kathy Ray and Jessica Palamara who are mother and daughter respectively founded their business Something Pretty on the principal of family and creativity. They work well together because of an inherent respect for each other’s talents. They both are trained in accounting which gives them a strong basis for running a business.
Their first exposure to beaded jewelry came in early 2004 when together they took a basic beading class. They wanted to learn how to repair some broken but loved jewelry. The class covered some very beginning examples of color and texture mixed with hands on learning session. The class excited them both and created the foundation for their business.
Jessica has an extensive 16 year background in counted cross stitch which gives her a fantastic sense of color and style. She enjoys stringing as well as the complicated weaving techniques which have developed from her love of counted cross stitch.
Kathy’s background is in crochet which also creates a sense of style and perspective. She enjoys stringing beads alone or with metals and chain.
Together they create some intriguing design combinations. Their creative talents lead them to brain storming sessions which spark new and unique designs. Inspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes the style of an outfit will determine the beads and start the design process. Other times the beads themselves will lead to the design of the finished jewelry.
Kathy and Jessica create rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings in many different styles using both beads and metals in stringing and weaving techniques to create the perfect design. Their main focus is to create the perfect design for each piece of jewelry.
